Alidad Amirfazli
Alidad Amirfazli is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering,
York University, and an internationally recognised expert in surface science, wetting,
adhesion, and interfacial phenomena. His research addresses the fundamental physics and
engineering of liquid–solid interactions, surface energy, and capillarity, with applications
ranging from advanced materials and coatings to microfluidics and soft matter systems.
His work has contributed significantly to the understanding of wettability, contact-angle
hysteresis, and surface design principles, which are critical for functional materials exposed
to extreme environments. Within the Topical Team, his expertise supports the design of
space-relevant surfaces and interfaces, including contamination-resistant materials,
fluid–material interactions, and durability of functional coatings under microgravity and
space conditions.
